Grayton Beach was originally founded back in 1890 when two army generals mapped out the streets and established the community. They named this "beach village town" after another army major who had the first homestead in the area back in 1885, Major Charles T. Gray. Since then, much has changed, but Grayton Beach has retained the essence of it's simple beginnings. Cottage style beach homes predominate in Grayton Beach and the area is known for it's laid back lifestyle and "shabby sheik" style.
Bordered by Grayton Beach State Preserve, the residents and visitors of Grayton Beach tend be nature lovers. Take your kayak out for a day on Western Lake, one of of only a few natural Coastal Dune Lakes in our area and the world! Go for a hike in through the trails in the state preserve or drive your Jeep down to the beach and use it as your very own "base of operations" while playing in the surf and sand. Grayton Beach is the only South Walton beach community that allows ordinary people to drive their car on the beach, so it's truly a unique beach experience in our area. Unfortunately, a famous local landmark in Grayton Beach, The Red Bar, tragically burned down recently in the early morning hours this spring. The good news is the local community is standing strong behind the proprietors of this jewel of central 30a and we expect them to come back stronger than ever! Keep a look out for updates on the new and improved "Red Bar", hopefully coming back to Grayton Beach soon!
